Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr Wah Wah Maung presided over a coordination meeting on promoting cooperation between the government and the private sector for the implementation of the tasks to be continued in accordance with the guidance of the Head of State regarding the visits to Xiamen, People’s Republic of China, and Minsk, Republic of Belarus, yesterday.
The Union minister discussed matters related to the implementation of the guidance given by the Head of State for visit to the People’s Republic of China regarding the current status of enabling investment projects using Chinese Yuan, cooperation in the agriculture and livestock sectors through technological advancement, increasing investment in the electricity and energy sectors, promoting value-added mineral processing industries, expanding export volumes of domestic products, fostering cooperation with Chinese business entrepreneurs to attract investments and enhance technology, including AI and establishing a direct air route between Yangon and Chengdu and the export of marine products.
She also highlighted the participation of Myanmar businesses in International Trade and Investment Fair held in Xiamen of China, the signing of MOU with the Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital to enhance cooperation in the medical field, arrangements for sending trainees and medical interns, collaboration on establishing a direct air route between Yangon and Xiamen, and efforts to increase export of marine products and rice from Myanmar.
Regarding with the visit to Minsk of Belarus, she stated that discussions were held on detailed matters regarding trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, including the export of rice, rubber, finished garments, and marine products from Myanmar to Belarus, cooperation in the banking and financial sectors, development of the tourism sector, importation of medicines and medical equipment from Belarus, particularly cancer treatment drugs, the introduction and opening of showrooms for Belarusian agricultural machinery, human resource development, the organization of package tours between the two countries, facilitation of direct business linkages between private entrepreneurs and identifying potential areas for further cooperation between Myanmar and Belarus.
Union Minister for Commerce U Chit Swe then discussed that Myanmar is taking steps to enhance trade activities with China and Belarus, and also with ASEAN and neighbouring countries. Since China is the largest trading and investment partner of Myanmar, discussions were also made for the use of the Chinese Yuan in trade and investment, the need to further promote border trade and tourism industries, and the implementation of import substitution investment projects, promoting MSME businesses through SKD and CKD systems in connection with the import and production of electric vehicles (EVs), producing and exporting goods in line with market demand, coordination between the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) and its affiliated associations, and relevant ministries and preparations by relevant associations for increasing export volumes of rice, rubber, and marine products to Belarus.
Deputy Minister for Commerce U Min Min and participants coordinated the discussion, and the Union ministers concluded the meeting.
