Prime Minister U Nyo Saw addressed a ceremony to mark 2025 World Tourism Day held in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
In his speech, the Prime Minister highlighted the theme of World Tourism Day “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”, saying tourism is a focal point that promotes the socioeconomic status of countries and creates advancements in building a better future. Therefore, it is necessary to establish and implement good governance practices, strategic plans, systematic monitoring systems, and clear, well-defined priority programmes. The tourism industry is not only an economic sector but also one that creates opportunities in education, social development, culture, employment, and new prospects. Therefore, it is important to continue preserving these positive impacts for future generations and to keep learning and improving constantly in order to provide high-quality services that meet international standards.
It is also necessary to create numerous opportunities for the development of technical expertise, innovation, and the emergence of entrepreneurial initiatives to ensure the development of the tourism industry. Moreover, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises are crucial components of tourism growth, so they should expand products that attract tourists for investment. The government has been easing visa-related procedures to facilitate smooth entry and travel for international travellers. Moreover, the country continues to participate in international tourism fairs with booths representing the country, organize familiarization trips, and carries out tourism promotion activities using digital technologies.
Since the country is rich in tourism resources, there is great potential for the development of the tourism industry. It is important for the preservation of existing tourism resources systematically and sustainably, and for the creation of new tourist destinations. As a member of ASEAN, the country is promoting the development of a sustainable tourism industry through regional cooperation, and it should follow ASEAN tourism standards, encourage and promote the use of Green Energy in tourism activities.
