Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who is currently in the Russian Federation during his working visit at the invitation of the President of the Russian Federation, held talks with President of the Russian Federation Mr Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin at the Grand Kremlin Palace in Moscow on the evening of 25 September.
The President of the Russian Federation cordially welcomed the Acting President and SSPC Chairman of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
At the talks, President of the Russian Federation Mr Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin warmly welcomed the Acting President and SSPC Chairman of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. He said that the two countries have maintained diplomatic relations for more than 70 years. He recounted that during the visits to Russia, the Acting President and SSPC Chairman of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar have signed many agreements between the two countries. He emphasized that both sides will discuss these agreements between the two governments of both countries to continue implementation.
Amidst a busy schedule, the Acting President and SSPC Chairman of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar said that he was especially delighted to have this opportunity to meet the President of the Russian Federation once again. Myanmar-Russia diplomatic relations have remained strong for more than 70 years, and the military-to-military ties between the two nations have also continued to strengthen through friendly cooperation. He recognized that every country has the right to defend itself if its sovereignty and the security and interests of its citizens are threatened. He also welcomed Russia’s efforts to achieve a durable peace. In the near future, he unveiled that a free and fair general election involving all parties will be held in Myanmar, and upon its completion, State responsibilities will be transferred in accordance with democratic standards. International observer groups will also be invited to monitor the election. In the coming years, emphasis will be placed on the implementation of multi-sectoral cooperation for the mutual benefit and prosperity between the two countries and the people.
They also exchanged views on the promotion of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, the sector on peaceful use of nuclear energy, enhancement of cooperation in investment, electric power, health and production of medicines, agriculture, academics, and defence sectors, and cooperation in other sectors.
Also, present at the talks were Commission Secretary and Joint Executive Chief General Ye Win Oo, Commission Member and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, Union Ministers U Nyan Tun, U Ko Ko Lwin, Dr Myo Thein Kyaw and Dr Thet Khaing Win, Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Myo Aung, Myanmar Ambassador to the Russian Federation U Thit Linn Ohn and officials. The President of the Russian Federation was accompanied by the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office, aides to the President of the Russian Federation, ministers from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Energy, officials, and senior government executives.
