THE Myanmar delegation, led by Union Minister and Union Attorney-General Dr Thida Oo, attended the 15th China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Conference held in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the People’s Republic of China, from 22 to 24 September.

The Conference was held under the theme “Combating Money Laundering and Corruption and Recovering Assets in the Technology Era.”

The Union minister and Union Attorney-General remarked that the conference serves as an important platform for promoting international legal cooperation and addressing transnational criminal issues. She noted that legal cooperation is necessary not only among ASEAN Member States but also between China and ASEAN Member States to implement the conference’s theme.

She stated that the government works with international and regional anti-corruption organizations to fight against transnational money laundering and anti-corruption, and implements the National Strategy for Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing (2024-2028), and also organized the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The government tackled the transnational financial fraud and online scam through close collaboration with China, Laos and Thailand, and fully participated in primary steps of ASLOM such as AET and ACCPCJ.

She signed the Joint Declaration of the 15th China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Conference together with the Prosecutors-General.

The Myanmar delegation also met with Chinese Prosecutor-General Mr Ying Yong and discussed further cooperation in legal affairs.

By signing the joint statement of the 15th China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Conference, ASEAN member countries can enhance cooperation in the use of technology to combat money laundering and corruption, strengthen mutual trust and friendship among ASEAN member states, improve collaboration between the offices of prosecutors-general in China and ASEAN countries, and promote friendly relations with China.
