A ceremony to provide K10 million in compensation to each of the first 72 victims of the Sky Villa building collapse, caused by the Mandalay earthquake, was held at Nanshae Moantai Zayat on the afternoon of 8 September.

At the ceremony, NTL Construction Company, which built Sky Villa, reportedly gave K10 million each to the first batch of 72 victims – both citizens and foreigners who died in the collapse.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to the collapse of Sky Villa. The compensation provided is not intended to diminish the value of these lives; rather, it is a measure to provide temporary accommodation and food for the families left behind. The cost of clearing the collapsed Sky Villa has so far exceeded K1.8 billion,” said U Lin Lin Htun, Sky Villa Condo Operation Manager.

The demolition of the collapsed Sky Villa building is currently 88 per cent complete, and the death toll has reached 205.
