A pilot project is being implemented in the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area and six Regions — Sagaing, Bago, Magway, Mandalay, Yangon, and Ayeyawady — to distribute fertilizer inputs to farmers on a pay-after-harvest basis.
Under this system, the market price of a bag of urea in Yangon is K102,000, while the distribution price under the scheme is K89,500. Similarly, a bag of compound fertilizer fetches K145,000 at the market rate, but is being distributed at K120,000. Based on these prices, including transport charges, farmers are expected to save between K20,000 and K30,000 per bag of urea or compound fertilizer compared to the prevailing market price.
After the harvest, farmers will be required to repay the cost of the distributed inputs, together with loans from the Myanmar Agricultural Development Bank, cooperative loans, and Myaseinyaung loans.
To ensure effective use of fertilizer inputs, farmers must strictly follow the prescribed quantities, application timings, and methods set by the Department of Agriculture. Only then can the targeted yields be achieved.
