The Ministry of Industry will set up the new labs to test steels used in construction businesses in Yangon, Mandalay, Sagaing, and Nay Pyi Taw, according to No 1 Heavy Industries Enterprise under the Ministry of Industry.

“Steel policy has been announced to ensure the steel quality and standard to be utilized in the reconstruction of the buildings destroyed by the Mandalay Earthquake. The internationally accredited labs for steel analysis will be developed at the respective industrial zone in order to test steel quality in line with that policy. Steel testing will be undertaken by classifying two categories: domestically manufactured and imported steel,” said U Min Thu, Managing Director of the No 1 Heavy Industries Enterprise.

Additionally, raising awareness of steel standards will be undertaken, especially for manufacturers and importers.

Following testing at the laboratories, test certificates will be issued for domestically produced steel and imported steel.
