Mandalay University, which was opened on 4 July 1925 and reached its 100th anniversary on 4 July 2025, will hold its centenary celebrations with national grandeur on 4 October, according to the Centenary Celebration Organizing Leading Committee.
The centenary celebration of Mandalay University will be held at the national level, and the leading committee, working committee and subcommittees, city elders, alumni, and officials are successfully implementing the 25 steps set by the ministry. In addition, Mandalay University held an initial celebration of its 100th anniversary on 4 July in front of the Engineering Building (Red Brick Building) of the university in Mandalay.
Mandalay University, the second university established in Myanmar, was founded in 1925 as an independent educational institution.
Mandalay University is located on 73rd Street in southern Mandalay, with a campus covering 300 acres. Mandalay College was opened on 4 July 1925 with only 30 students, and its first principal was Mr L Htin Si (MA).
It became an independent university on 1 June 1958, and its students are primarily from Upper Myanmar. Located in Mandalay, the university strives to preserve and revive the endangered customs, culture, art, literature, and Buddhist scriptures of the Myanmar people.
On 28 March 2025, a severe earthquake in Mandalay damaged the main building of Mandalay University, setting it on fire and damaging other campus buildings. And repairs to the main building are currently in progress.
