Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, who is also Chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee, accompanied by the relevant officials, met departmental officials and locals in Nawnghkio Township, Shan State (North), yesterday.
During the meeting with locals, who fled from the township due to terrorists and returned to the township, the Union minister said the townships and villages were destroyed due to the terrorists, and the students lost their learning opportunities. Tatmadaw regained Nawnghkio, and the temporarily displaced people were accepted systematically and provided with the healthcare system and education services as quickly as possible. Moreover, the schools which were closed for nearly one year were also reopened, and the students are learning peacefully. The people should work with the relevant officials in security and rule of law activities in Nawnghkio.
He also highlighted the free and fair multiparty democratic general election to be held in December, and added that the people should cast their votes, while the officials arrange for all the eligible voters to be able to cast their votes.
The Union minister and party handed over five types of basic foodstuffs for security force members, departmental officials and locals.
They proceeded to the Nawnghkio Township Hospital, and comforted patients and presented cash assistance. They also inspected the township Fire Services Department, Police Station and Nawnghkio Myoma Police Station and gave words of encouragement members and their families and provided them with basic foodstuffs.
On arrival at the township General Administration Department, they met district and township-level departmental officials and inspected the rehabilitation processes.
They went to the BEHS 1 in Butar Ward, Nawnghkio, and cordially met students there.
The Union minister and party went to the Hawtaw Monastery in Nawnghkio, and donated Waso robes and alms to the monks from 10 monasteries.
