A total of 94 Chinese nationals who entered Myanmar illegally through border routes and committed online gambling, online fraud, and other offenses in Kayin State, including Myawaddy, Shwe Kokko, KK Park, and Kyaukkhet have been repatriated to their respective country via the Myanmar–Thailand Friendship Bridge (No 2) with due regard to humanitarian considerations and friendly bilateral relations.
To ensure smooth and systematic repatriation, authorities inspected the coordination process, verified the completeness of records and data, and provided guidance where necessary.
The repatriation ceremony was conducted with the participation of officials from the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, Kayin State, Deputy Director U Myint Phone, representatives from the Chinese Ministry of Public Security, the Criminal Investigation Department, the Law Enforcement Police, led by Deputy Director-General Mr Chen Jian Feng, as well as officials from the Thai Immigration Bureau. Myanmar authorities formally handed over the repatriation documents to the respective countries’ officials in an orderly manner.
From 30 January to 20 August 2025, Myanmar identified and detained a total of 9,331 foreign nationals who had entered the country illegally. Among them, 9,205 were repatriated to their countries per legal procedures via Thailand, while 126 remain ready for repatriation and are being securely maintained.
The government continues to actively investigate and take strong action against illegal online fraud operations. In particular, online gambling and financial fraud activities in Myanmar’s border areas are being investigated and addressed in collaboration with neighbouring countries and international organizations, adopting a national-level approach.
