As of 29 May, the death toll from the powerful earthquake that struck Myanmar on 28 March has reached 3,740, with 5,104 people injured and 67 reported missing across six severely affected states and regions.
Search and rescue operations, coordinated by the Myanmar Fire Services Department and both domestic and international response teams, are ongoing in the hardest-hit areas. Rescue personnel have managed to save 653 survivors trapped under collapsed buildings, while 817 bodies have been recovered from the rubble.
Local donors continue to provide monetary and material aid to victims of the disaster. International support has also been forthcoming, with various countries, organizations, and philanthropic groups sending financial and humanitarian assistance. Between 5 pm on 28 May and 5 pm on 29 May, a 2.069-tonne shipment of 102 boxes of diarrhoea vaccines, donated by Shanghai United Cell Biotechnology Co Ltd in China, arrived at Yangon International Airport.
The donated vaccines have been transferred to the Ministry of Health for use in healthcare initiatives.
