The handover ceremony for prefabricated temporary school buildings donated by ASEAN member countries through the AHA Centre for earthquake-affected areas in Mandalay Region was held yesterday morning at the meeting hall of the Department of Disaster Management under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement (MSWRR).
Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win, Deputy Minister for Education Dr Zaw Myint, Deputy Minister for MSWRR U Soe Kyi, Nay Pyi Taw Council Member U Myint Soe, permanent secretaries, directors-general, deputy directors-general, Executive Director of AHA Centre Mr Lee Yam Ming, and representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat and the AHA Centre attended the ceremony.
To ensure that schools reopen in time during the first week of June for the 2025–2026 academic year and to allow children to continue their education safely and comfortably, 20 prefabricated school classrooms donated by ASEAN countries will be constructed — five each in Nay Pyi Taw, Sagaing Region, Mandalay Region and Shan State.
At the ceremony, the Union minister delivered a speech, and AHA Centre Executive Director Mr Lee Yam Ming officially handed over the prefabricated schools to Deputy Minister for Education Dr Zaw Myint and Nay Pyi Taw Council Member U Myint Soe. Union Minister Dr Soe Win also presented a certificate of appreciations to the AHA Centre.
