THE Myanma Railway has been providing the Kalaw-Aungban railway coaches for homegrown visitors starting from April 2025 to enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Shan hills.
“This railway car runs daily on the route. It is designated for local visitors. The rent for the whole carriage that can accommodate 15 passengers is K120,000 per return trip. It can be booked in advance. If not, they need to wait for a couple of hours. The trip takes an hour and a half. It aims to run once a day in May. The passengers mostly take the train ride to take pictures of scenic views,” said an official from the Kalaw Station.
Locals from Taunggyi, Aungban, Kalaw and other regions enjoy this railway car, costing K8,000 per ticket.
The train stops for 15 minutes for the visitors to take photos near tourist spots (Byaik Hill, Myindaik). Furthermore, Kalaw-Aungban steam-powered locomotives and carriages have arrived at Aungban station to provide Kalaw-Aungban steam train route services.
