MYANMAR conveyed about 30,000 metric tonnes of fish with an estimated value of US$29.46 million in April of the current FY (2024-2025), according to the Department of Fisheries.

Myanmar exported $13.67 million worth of over 10,231 metric tonnes of fish by sea, while $15.79 million valued 19,640 metric tonnes of fish were sent to neighbouring countries through land borders.

Myanmar’s fish export reached over 27,250 metric tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous financial year (2023-2024), generating over $28.553 million.

The figure showed a significant increase of over 2,620 tonnes ($0.9 million) compared to that of the previous FY. Myanmar steadily exports seafood to 40 countries, including China, Thailand, Bangladesh and Japan through maritime and border trade channels.

More than 20 fish species, including hilsa, rohu, catfish, and seabass, are conveyed to foreign markets, according to the Myanmar Fisheries Federation.

There are over 140 cold-storage seafood processing factories in Myanmar. The Department of Fisheries processes a licence renewal yearly.
