Under the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade are continued effectively by the law.
On 16, 17 and 18 May, the combined teams impounded 3.89 tonnes of illegal teak (worth K1.95 million) in Lewe district, industrial materials (worth K55.48 million) without official documents from 18 containers at the Asia World Port, foodstuffs (valued at K4.32 million) without official documents from the luggage of a passenger from Malaysia to Myanmar at the Yangon International Airport, and a Yutong bus (worth approximately K70 million) carrying consumer goods (valued at K5.53 million) without official documents at the Mayanchaung permanent checkpoint. The action was conducted under the Forest Law and Customs procedures.
Additionally, on 18 and 19 May, the combined on-duty teams seized a Nissan Caravan (estimated value of K30 million) carrying foodstuffs (valued at K3.04 million) without official documents in Phayagyi, 0.484 tonne of illegal hardwood and 7.418 tonnes of illegal timbers (valued at K1.17 million) in Bago and Nyaunglebin districts, and two unregistered vehicles (worth approximately K6.5 million) in Thayawady and Minhla Townships. The action was taken under the Forest Law, the Export-Import Law, and Customs procedures.
On 19 May, the combined teams captured 5.761 tonnes of illegal teak (valued at K10.13 million) in Monywa Township, consumer goods (worth K499.5 million) without official documents at the Yadanabon bridge checkpoint in Sagaing Township, and industrial materials and foodstuffs (worth K8.45 million) without official documents in Pauktaw Township of Rakhine State. The action was taken under the Export-Import
Law and the Forest Law.
The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported 19 arrests on four consecutive days from 16 to 19 May, confiscating illegal goods worth approximately K696 million.
