A dinner to mark the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 of the Russian Federation took place at the Lotte Hotel in Yangon yesterday evening, attended by State Administration Council Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win and his wife Daw Than Than Nwe.

Ambassador of the Russian Federation ot Myanmar Mr Iskander Azizov, Russian Military Attaché Colonel Eduard Okladnikov and officials cordially welcomed attendees to the dinner.

The ceremony was opened with the national anthems of Myanmar and the Russian Federation, while Russian Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Iskander Azizov extended greetings.

A video clip on the address delivered by President of the Russian Federation Mr Vladimir Putin at the parade to mark the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 of the Russian Federation held on 9 May 2025, and the history of the victory was presented.

The Russian Ambassador hosted a dinner for the attendees. During the dinner, a cultural troupe of the Russian Federation performed traditional songs and dances.

The Vice-Senior General and the Russian Federation had documentary photos taken together with attendees.

The dinner was also attended by SAC member Mahn Nyein Maung, Union ministers and their wives, the Yangon Region Chief Minister and his wife, the commander of Yangon Command and his wife, senior Tatmadaw officers, Ambassadors and Chargés d’Affaires from foreign embassies in Yangon and Military Attachés.

The Soviet Union (Russia) participated in driving out invasion of Fascist Nazi in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 starting from 22 June 1941. At night on 8 May 1945 (the morning of 9 May, Moscow Standard Time), a German Instrument of Surrender was inked in Berlin of Germany, and With the signing of the German Instrument of Surrender by the fascist Nazis, the Second World War officially came to an end. The Soviet Union designated Victory Day on 9 May as a public holiday.
