THE security forces conduct­ed an investigation following an armed robbery at KBZ Bank (No 37th branch) in Maha Nwezin ward of Mahaaungmyay town­ship of Mandalay Region on 11 January.

According to the investiga­tion, an unidentified man arrived at the bank pretending to with­draw money, and threatening the bank staff holding a gun in his hand and instructing him to put the money into his bag. When he got out of the bank, the bank staff and people arrested him togeth­er, and he shot a gun. The deputy bank manager of the bank got a gunshot wound. The offender Aung Pyae Phyo (aka) Yaung Ni from Amarapura was arrested with one homemade pistol and five 9mm bullets.

Police seized two homemade guns, 18 gingalis and one T-shirt at his parents’ house in Hman Tan ward of Amarapura on the same day, and 18 9mm bullets and one motorcycle at the house he rented in the same ward.

The offender confessed that he attended the PDF terrorist training in Saigaing township together with his friend Ko Na­ing Oo (aka) Ko Oo (aka) Laung Char (under investigation) in June 2021. He bought the guns and magazines from Ko Naing Oo (aka) Ko Oo (aka) Laung Char, supported financial assis­tance to PDF terrorist groups many times, and robbed the bank to provide the PDF ter­rorist groups.

Steps are being taken to take action against him, and further investigations were underway.
