The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation has officially designated a 1,905-acre area in NyaungU Township, NyaungU District, Mandalay Region, as the “Tuyin Hill Protected Public Forest.” This designation was made under Notification 3/2025, effective from 2 January 2025 (4th Waxing of Pyatho, 1386 ME) under Section 6 (e) of the 2018 Forest Law.

This protected area aims to mitigate rising temperatures and prevent extreme heat and drought in the tropical Bagan-NyaungU region. It will contribute to balanced and pleasant weather conditions, environmental preservation, soil enrichment, and erosion prevention. It will also help shield the area from natural disasters and ensure the continuous supply of forest products like firewood, bamboo and timber for local agricultural use. The designation also supports the conservation of tropical forests.

The establishment of the Tuyin Hill Protected Public Forest will help conserve native tree species such as teak, Indian elm, Thanaka, star-flower, catechu, tamarind, and Dahat. Locals will benefit from sustainable access to forest products. The reserve will also provide more shaded and resting areas for visitors to Tuyin Hill Pagoda. It will then preserve habitats for wildlife species such as deer, civets, wildcats and rabbits, and protect biodiversity. This initiative will combat desertification, improve soil quality, conserve groundwater and enhance forest coverage, leading to better climate conditions.
