A Myanmar delegation, led by Commission member U Kyaw Soe Lin of the Myanmar Anti-Corruption Commission, attended the 20th Principals Meeting of the ASEAN Parties Against Corruption (ASEAN-PAC), held in Bali, Indonesia, from 2 to 5 December.
Opening remarks were given by Mr Khamphan Phommathath, President of the Lao State Inspection Authority, and Mr Alexander Marwata of the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
The meeting approved the minutes of the 19th session, discussed the annual work plan, reviewed the 2023-2025 work plan, and outlined the 2026-2028 work plan, while also addressing the next meeting’s host country, Malaysia, and the use of technology in anti-corruption efforts.
Moreover, a representative from the ASEAN Secretariat discussed ways to enhance the role of ASEAN-PAC in the region, while a representative from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) talked about the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) by ASEAN-PAC member states. Delegates also attended a workshop jointly organized by the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and UNODC, as well as the Anti-Corruption Film Festival 2024.
The progress of the Myanmar Anti-Corruption Commission in preventing and combating corruption was also discussed, including its use of technology, public awareness campaigns, and international cooperation. Highlights included the establishment of Corruption Prevention Units (CPU), a Public Feedback Programme (PFP), and investigations to recover state assets. The Commission’s work on drafting whistle-blower protection laws and enhancing international cooperation was also mentioned at the meeting.
