On 4 December, Union Minister for Health Professor Dr Thet Khaing Win, currently in China, led a delegation to visit Fuwai Hospital in Beijing, accompanied by officials from the Myanmar Embassy.
During the visit, officials from Fuwai Hospital provided an overview of their collaboration with the National Centre for Cardiovascular Diseases under the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China. They discussed the hospital’s work in treating cardiovascular diseases, conducting research, and offering both short-term and long-term training programmes for international trainees. As one of the largest cardiology-specialized hospitals in the world, Fuwai Hospital also shared details of its ongoing cooperation with Myanmar in the field of cardiovascular treatment. Both sides held discussions on further opportunities for medical training and treatment collaboration.
The Union Minister and his delegation also toured several key areas of the hospital, including the coronary care unit, catheterization laboratory, ambulatory surgery centre, global training centre for cardiac intervention imaging, and the outpatient cardiology department.
Fuwai Hospital is a large facility with over 1,500 beds, 15 catheterization labs, and 36 cardiac surgery rooms. Each year, the hospital performs around 20,000 cardiac surgeries and 50,000 cardiac catheterization operations.
