UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade were continued effectively by the law.

On 12 November, the combined teams impounded a Yutong bus (approximately K60 million), heading to Yangon from Hpa-an, carrying foodstuffs worth K6 million without official documents at the Mayanchaung permanent checkpoint, four kinds of foodstuffs, two kinds of industrial materials and consumer goods valued at about K53.46 without official document at the Asia World Port Terminal container checkpoint and ten kinds of jewellery (suspected to be jade) worth K30.219 million without official documents from the luggage at Mandalay International Airport. The action was conducted following Customs procedures.

Similarly, the combined teams conducted inspections and seized nine Nissan Diesel trucks and three dump trucks (estimated value of K273 million) carrying 1,195 barrels of illegal diesel valued at about K1.43 million at the Nantseeaung combined checkpoint, consumer goods valued at K1.2 million near the Sinphyu border crossing in Muse Township and a Mitsubishi Canter truck (worth approximately K35 million) carrying consumer goods, foodstuffs and industrial materials without official documents worth about K31 million at the Wontapin combined checkpoint in Kengtung Township. The action was taken under the Petroleum and Petroleum Products Law and Customs procedures.

Additionally, the combined on-duty teams nabbed an unregistered Toyota Crown (estimated value of K19.5 million), two unregistered motorbikes (estimated value of K800,000) in Kalay and Khamti Townships, a Chindwin Star microbus (estimated value of K35 million) carrying consumer goods worth about K10 million without official documents at the Myitnge checkpoint, and a Dongfeng tractor head with a trailer (estimated value of K86 million) carrying industrial materials worth about K127.17 million without official documents in Paleik Township. The action was executed as per Customs procedures.

An unregistered Toyota Mark II (estimated value of K4 million) was seized in North Okkalapa Township, and five unregistered motorbikes were captured in Eainme, Wakema and Myaungmya Townships. The action was taken under the Export-Import Law.

The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported 25 arrests on 12 November, seizing illegal goods worth approximately K2.2 billion.
