MR Alexey Sambuevich Tsydenov, Head of Russia's Buryatia Republic, and his delegation visited the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon yesterday. They were warmly welcomed by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, ministers, and officials from the pagoda board of trustees.
During the visit, the delegation offered oil lamps, flowers, water, and fruits, and signed the guest book. The board of trustees also presented them with a commemorative Shwedagon Pagoda image. Following this, the delegation observed the 36th Matho robe-weaving event and later toured the Bogyoke Market, where they viewed local jewellery, jade carvings, traditional clothing, gold and silver embroideries, lacquerware, traditional handicrafts, paintings, and sculptures.
The group continued their tour with visits to City Hall, the Secretariat, Kandawgyi Lake, and Karaweik Hall. They then proceeded to Sitagu International Buddhist University, where they paid respects to Sitagu Sayadaw Dr Ashin Nyanissara and donated offerings. The group also toured the Seminar Hall and the eye surgery clinic.
Afterwards, the delegation flew from Yangon to Pathein, where they were greeted by Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win and officials at Pathein Airport.
The delegation then arrived at Chaungtha Beach from Pathein, where the Head of the Buryatia Republic of the Russian Federation and the Ayeyawady Region chief minister, along with their teams, launched commemorative balloons to mark Russian-Myanmar friendship. Following the balloon launch, the Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister hosted a dinner for the guests at the Azura Beach Resort.
