A work coordination meeting of the Natural Disaster Management Centre was held at the Disaster Management Centre of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement yesterday.
Vice-Chair 1 of the National Disaster Management Committee Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, Vice-Chair 2 Dr Soe Win, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, the secretaries of the National Disaster Management Working Committee; permanent secretaries, directors-general, directors and officials of the working committees were present at the meeting.
Union Minister Lt-Gen Yar Pyae first said the SAC Chairman and Prime Minister announced that rehabilitation work in flood-hit areas should be carried out and completed on 15 March 2025. Requirements should be presented at the meeting for the National Disaster Management Committee to support the projects that have not been completed. He added that it is necessary to prepare according to the region and working committees to be able to respond to weather conditions that may occur according to weather forecasts and their effects on the country.
Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win urged officials concerned to present complete information about the requirements regarding the post-flood rehabilitation measures and put forward the plans to be carried out with appropriate funds in line with guidelines for the repair of departmental buildings. To be able to confirm and submit damage figures, the relevant working committees and the regional and state governments should coordinate, verify the data and take immediate action where necessary. He also mentioned the progress of the current rehabilitation work, and attendees should discuss the conditions that will be completed for the remaining work.
Meeting participants reported on support to families who died in flash floods in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, Kayah State, Kayin State, Bago Region, Magway Region, Mandalay Region, Shan State and Ayeyawady Region. They also discussed completed support to destroyed houses, partially damaged homes, agriculture and livestock farmers, fishery workers, road and bridge repairs in border and rural areas, electricity and communication repair works, and ongoing repair works on damaged railway tracks, among others.
Union Minister Lt-Gen Yar Pyae coordinated the discussions and addressed the difficulties experienced.
