ACCORDING to the Myanmar Police Force, Sandar Myo, also known as Ma Lin, a human trafficker from Indaw Township in the Sagaing Region, was sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labour under the Anti-Human Trafficking Law as she was found guilty of attempting to persuade a girl from Thakayta Township in Yangon Region to marry a Chinese man.

Sandar Myo deceived the 16-year-old girl by promising her K10 million if she married the Chinese man without signing an official marriage certificate and agreed to live with him for about a year. Consequently, she was charged with human trafficking under Section 35/44 of the Anti-Human Trafficking Law at the No 8 Myoma Police Station in Chanayethazan Township. The case was then forwarded to the Mahaaungmyay District Court, which sentenced her to 15 years in prison with hard labour on 4 October.
