Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, on his inspection tour of the City Circular Diesel Locomotive Shed (Insein) of Myanma Railways under the Ministry of Transport and Communications yesterday morning, gave guidance to officials to continuously strive to operate electric multiple unit (EMU).

At the meeting hall of the locomotive shed, the Senior General noted that it is necessary to conduct research on railway sections to limit the speed of trains at some bending while implementing the project to raise the speed of trains to drive 80 kilometres per hour.

He underlined that preparations must be made to raise the speed of passenger trains to drive 80 kilometres per hour and for freight trains to drive 60 kilometres per hour.
The Senior General emphasized that DEMU locomotives and carriages must be built at home, stressing that it is necessary to improve locomotives and carriages as well as to make rail tracks.

He underscored that as running the electric train is a must in Myanmar, necessary research must be done for accomplishing the project, urging all to strive to operate electric multiple unit (EMU) continuously. As such, he continued that it is necessary to ease levelcrossings and build underpasses to enable trains to drive at a set speed.
The Senior General noted that rail transport in Myanmar is still underdeveloped compared to other countries.

Railway areas and yards must be in accord with the law and disciplines, and these environments must be decorated with proper landscape and greening activities, he added.

The Senior General urged all to revitalize rail transport for people as it is an essential part of the nation’s transport system.

SAC Member Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo reported on the progress of improving the Yangon circular railway, matters concerning the City Circular Diesel Locomotive Shed (Insein), the background history of the circular railway, and traffic safety along the railway, Deputy Minister U Aung Myaing on preparations to allow higher speed of trains in main railway sections, mechanical requirements of locomotives, carriages and DEMU (rolling stocks), signals and traffic requirements and reviews, manufacturing of concrete sleepers for all sections and further production of sleepers.

The Senior General inspected new DEMU carriages which arrived from Spain and gave necessary guidance to officials.
