FOR the first time in Myanmar, a Thai music singing contest will be held under the theme ‘T-pop Star Challenge, Myanmar,’ sponsored by Thailand’s most extensive entertainment companies – GMM Grammy and GMMTV, as stated by the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon.

In line with the government of Thailand’s policy of “enhancing the soft power of Thailand abroad”, T-pop Star Challenge aims to increase interest in the Thai language among Myanmar people as well as to entertain many Myanmar nationals living in Thailand, a neighbouring country of Myanmar, with their favourite Thai music, movies and series, said T-pop Star Challenge, Myanmar.

The winner’s prize is US$3,500 and a trophy. Participants must be Myanmar nationals aged 18 years and above. After choosing a licensed song they like under the GMM group, they need to record a video of themselves singing in their own voice and send the video with clear faces to www.tpopstar.com between 22 June and 31 July.

Twelve short-listed candidates will be announced on 10 August 2024, while the semifinals and final contest will be held at Junction City shopping centre on 28 and 29 September 2024. Event organizers will cover travel and accommodation costs for short-listed candidates from other cities to come and stay in Yangon.

Thai artistes from GMM Grammy and GMMTV and Myanmar artistes will participate in the contest as judges and special guests, it said.
