TMinistry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation held a monsoon tree-planting and fingerling-a HE dding ceremony 2020 near the Paunglaung Reservoir in Zeyathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory yesterday morning.

Union Minister U Tin Htut Oo, Chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council Dr Maung Maung Naing, Deputy Minister Dr Aung Gyi, members of the Nay Pyi Taw Council, officials, rectors and departmental staff and students from the Yezin Agricultural University, University of Veterinary Science and SAI (Pyinmana) attended the event.

First, attendees added Rohu fingerlings, swamp barb fingerlings and pond goldfish fingerlings, totalling 200,000 into the Paunglaung River.

The Union minister underscored the need to conserve the degraded ecosystem that occurred out of massive food production for the world population, urban expansion and excessive extraction of natural resources. The Union minister also urged all to join hands and participate actively in the process of conserving the ecosystem.

Attendees planted perennial trees such as precious teak saplings, Xylia xylocarpa saplings, Mahogany saplings and Gmelina arborea saplings, totalling 1,000 saplings in designated places in the vicinity of the Paunglaung Reservoir.

T h e m i n i s t r y h a s been holding the monsoon tree-growing ceremony annually and 98 per cent of 1,000 perennials that have been planted in the environment of the Chaungmange Reservoir in Lewe Township last year are thriving well at present.
