MORE than 250 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Muse within two months, bringing five deaths in toto, it is leant.
Muse is one of the main border checkpoints between Myanmar and China and it is located in Northern Shan State.
“We conducted the COVID-19 test daily to 100 people using the antigen rapid test in Muse within two months in June and July. Someday, we run the COVID-19 test on 200 people. Then, about 255 people were found infected with the COVID-19 virus as of yesterday night. A 55-yearold woman, who was hospitalized in Muse public hospital, was found dead with COVID-19 virus this morning. About five COVID-19 deaths were reported from 2020 to as of today,” said an official from the Muse Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19.
Due to the rising number of COVID-19 confirmed patients in Muse district public hospital, the township public hospital, Chinese language schools and relevant staff housing were opened as quarantine centres and the patients received medical treatment there. Besides, there are also insufficient medical staff and volunteers due to the increasing number of patients.
After more COVID-19 cases have reported in border areas, Chinese authorities have halted completely two crossings — Kyinsankyawt and Pansai (Wanding) starting from 8 July at noon, according to the traders and truck drivers.
