EFFORTS are underway to resume production operations by salvaging looms and related equipment at the No 7 Textile Factory branch (Wundwin), despite damage to the factory buildings caused by the major Mandalay earthquake, according to the source.

Dr Charlie Than, Union Minister for Industry and MSME Development, accompanied by Deputy Minister U Thwin Aung, inspected the relocation and installation of machinery, and the salvage operations being carried out to minimize damage to machinery at the factory yesterday morning.

During the inspection, the Union minister instructed officials to complete the installation and adjustment of the relocated looms as soon as possible so that production operations could resume, stockpile raw materials required for production, formulate and implement plans for rebuilding the factory and for salvaging machinery and resuming production, and systematically carry out salvage operations to minimize damage and losses to the machinery at the factory.

He also met the managing director and responsible officials of Kyaukse industrial area at the No 7 Textile Factory (Myittha), and briefed them on the guidance of the President, union-level meetings and business talks.

At noon, he proceeded to No 8 Textile Factory branch (Yamethin) and gave instructions to increase production, ensuring the timely manufacture and delivery of products ordered by ministries, and ensuring that machinery operates at full production capacity.
