UNION Minister U Myint Kyaing of the Ministry of Immigration and Population received Mr Jaime Nadal Roig, UNFPA Representative for Myanmar, and his delegation yesterday at the Minister’s Reception Hall in Nay Pyi Taw.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on the successful completion of the 2024 Population and Housing Census and the issuance of the Union Report, as well as on arrangements to draft and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate the implementation of jointly agreed projects between the Ministry and UNFPA. They also discussed the need to include only those activities that can realistically be completed within the designated timeframe, and the facilitation of visas and residency permits for UNFPA’s international staff in accordance with established procedures. The importance of UNFPA providing an updated list of its international and national staff to enable the Ministry to extend necessary assistance was noted. The two sides further discussed Myanmar’s current developments, preparations for the upcoming general election, and prospects for continued close cooperation between the Ministry and UNFPA.

Also, present at the meeting were Deputy Minister U Htay Hlaing, Permanent Secretary U Min Hein, and the directors-general of the Department of Immigration and the Department of Population, along with other responsible officials.
