Myanmar National Human Rights Commission Chairman U Paw Lwin Sein attended the Ninth International Scientific and Practical Conference centred on the issues of human rights protection in an era of digital transformation held from 22 to 24 October in Moscow in Russia.

The conference was attended by the representatives of human rights commissions and organizations from over 60 countries and organizations.

At the event, Myanmar National Human Rights Commission Chairman U Paw Lwin Sein stated that digital technology has now become inseparable from modern social life. Therefore, it is essential to protect and safeguard human rights in digital systems. The rights mentioned in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights must continue to be upheld and protected in the age of digital technology.

Myanmar enacted laws such as the Telecommunications Law and the Cybersecurity Law to protect digital rights. These laws are intended to protect the safety and security of citizens’ personal and private information.

He then mentioned the establishment of the learning management system, mobile application and website of the commission to receive the reports from the citizens online and the formation of the e-governance of the commission.

He met Russian Human Rights Commissioner Professor Tatiana Moskalkova separately, and discussed bilateral cooperation between the two commissions and exchanged gifts.
During the trip, he observed the human rights-related measures at the Russian Human Rights Commission headquarters and signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two commissions.

He also separately met the delegations of Indonesia, Sudan, Nepal and Sri Lanka and discussed bilateral cooperation, respectively.

He arrived back in Myanmar on 28 October.
