Myanmar authorities have detained 144 Chinese nationals who entered the country illegally and were involved in online gambling and fraud. The detainees, who crossed border routes via neighbouring countries, including Thailand, were apprehended in Kayin State’s Myawady-Mae Tha Waw Thalay (KK Park) area.

The detainees are currently under investigation, with relevant authorities compiling personal records and coordinating repatriation to their home countries in accordance with legal procedures. The operation is overseen by Myawady District Administrator U Kaung San Lin, and Deputy Director U Myint Bhone from the Ministry of Immigration and Population, along with other officials.

From 30 January to 25 October 2025, Myanmar authorities have identified and detained a total of 9,813 foreign nationals entering the country illegally. Among them, 9,339 have been repatriated via Thailand following legal procedures, while 474 remain under secure custody awaiting repatriation.

The government continues to actively investigate and take strict action against foreigners involved in online scam operations, collaborating with neighbouring and regional countries as well as international organizations. Authorities also ensure the safe and effective repatriation of foreign nationals facing hardship or victims of human trafficking.
