The Myanmar Embassy in Kuala Lumpur is working closely with the relevant organizations in Malaysia to bring back Myanmar citizens (detainees, jobless and undocumented migrant workers, seamen) who have no national verification and who were in detention centres, after their citizenship has been identified in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the health rules of the National-Level Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The Malaysian government organized three special chartered flights of Malaysia Airlines to send 684 Myanmar detainees back home and the first flight with 128 citizens landed at Yangon International Airport yesterday afternoon while the second one with 277 and the third one with 279 in the same evening.
The Myanmar Embassy in Kuala Lampur issued Certificate of Identity- C of I to the Myanmar citizens in accordance with the procedures by cooperating with the relevant organizations in Malaysia. The embassy also cooperated with Myanmar civil society organizations and Myanmar welfare groups in Malaysia to provide the needed clothes and other materials.
The Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, the Ministry of Health and Sports and the Yangon Region government arranged 7-day quarantine at specific places or designated hotels, followed by the 7-day home quarantine.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has organized 29th relief flights and chartered flights to bring back home a total of 4,891 Myanmar citizens including 1,472 detainees stranded in Malaysia to date.
