UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade were continued effectively by the law.
On 7 November, the combined teams seized a Hino Profia truck (approximately K30 million) carrying two types of consumer goods (estimated value of K564,000), without official documents at the Mayanchaung permanent checkpoint, a Nissan UD truck (estimated value of K25 million) carrying consumer goods and motorbike parts worth K7.2 million without official documents at the Yetha temporary vehicle checkpoint and consumer goods worth K8.15 million that were smuggled and piled up in the bus station compound in Kawthoung Township. The action was taken in line with Customs procedures.
Similarly, the combined teams conducted inspections in the seizures of two vehicles (estimated value of K60 million), heading to Mandalay from Yangon and to Mandalay from Yatsauk, carrying 11 kinds of consumer goods and three kinds of industrial materials worth K35.897 million at the Myitnge checkpoint, a Sunlong bus (approximately K100 million) carrying two kinds of consumer goods worth K18.562 million without official documents in Mandalay, a Yutong bus (approximately K45 million) carrying foodstuffs valued at K2.5 million without official document in Amarapura Township and two trucks (estimated value of K21.5 million) carrying illegal teak weighing 1.489 tonnes, illegal timbers weighing 11.773 tonnes and five types of related things valued at K12.043 million in PyinOoLwin and Patheingyi Townships. The action was carried out under the Forest Law and Customs procedures.
Additionally, an unregistered Sumbo Star motorbike (approximately K300,000) was seized in Monywa Township. The action was conducted under the Export-Import Law.
The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported 19 arrests on 7 November, seizing illegal goods worth approximately K366 million.
