The 42nd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) and associated events were held on 26-27 September, hosted by Laos as the alternate chair. U Aung Ko, Myanmar Ambassador to Laos, attended on behalf of the Union Minister for Energy alongside a delegation from the Ministry of Energy.
Energy Ministers from ASEAN countries, dialogue partners, the ASEAN Secretariat, ASEAN Energy Centre and international energy organizations discussed progress on the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation APAEC Phasell (2021-2025). Topics included upgrading regional power networks, including underwater power lines, expanding natural gas pipelines and LNG terminals, clean coal technologies, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and advancements in nuclear energy technology.
The meetings also covered initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and promote clean energy. Joint Ministerial Statements from the 42nd AMEM and the 21st AMEM+3 were issued. The 24th ASEAN Energy Business Forum and ASEAN Energy Medal Awards were held alongside the meeting, where the eighth ASEAN Energy Outlook was released.
