Chairman of Union Election Commission U Hla Thein took part in a virtual meeting organized by the NGO Child Rights Working Group yesterday.
In his opening remark, the UEC chairman emphasized physical and mental development of Myanmar children who contribute one-third of the country’s population.
He also discussed prevention of discrimination against the children on the grounds of gender, social strata and faith, and they need protection from negligence, violence, hindrances to education, using in armed conflicts and sexual abuses.
He continued to say that as the children are the future generation of the country, their rights must be protected.
The online meeting was attended by the representatives from political parties, civil society organizations and local/international organizations.
