Announcement 3/2021

1. It is highly crucial for the four estates to collaboratively safeguard the State’s peace, stability and the rule of law towards tranquility amidst current conflicts among Myanmar society.

2. It is found that even some news agencies that have officially registered at the Myanmar Government publish and broadcast false news items.

3. Accuracy of news is basically an ethical feature of responsibility. It is considered that the spreading of inaccurate information and unverifiable news amongst the public leads towards the deterioration of dignity of the media, which is the fourth estate, as well as towards the growth of the conflicts.

4. Myanmar Press Council is responsible for undertaking the development of the media world and promotion of media freedom. Furthermore, it stands tall, as an institution, in coordination with other similar estates to carry out the development of peace and democracy in line with the News Media Law and news media ethics.

5. Thus, it is hereby announced that all news agencies should be responsible and accountable for news items, facts and contents they publish and broadcast. It is also necessary that they should abide by media ethics and the News Media Law in order to earn the public trust upon the fourth estate.
