A discussion on combatting digital service violations (Anti-Piracy) was held yesterday at the Eravati Hotel in Yangon.
It was attended by Deputy Minister for Information U Ye Tint, officials of the Myanmar Press Council, Myanmar Writers’ Association, Myanmar Motion Pictures Organization, Myanmar Music Association (Central), Myanmar Theatrical Association (Central), DPDC, film producers, directors and other relevant officials.
Deputy Minister U Ye Tint said that in the present time, illegal digital piracy has become increasingly widespread in various forms, causing harm not only to the interests of creators but also to the country’s economy and investment sectors. Piracy directly steals the efforts and investments of creators and goes beyond copyright, damaging the entire artistic and technological system.
If such actions are not effectively prevented, they would hinder the emergence of new, high-quality creative works. He emphasized that the film industry, broadcasting sector, music industry, software industry, and digital content industries have become essential pillars of the national economy. Their revenues largely depend on broadcasting rights and digital distribution.
He added that digital piracy is no longer a domestic issue within a single country. It has become an international problem through cross-border violations, the use of multiple platforms, and cloud-based systems. Therefore, copyright protection can no longer be addressed by legislation alone, and it requires the simultaneous application of technology-based protection systems. He urged the government, private sector, technology providers, creators, and the public to jointly apply the rule of law and technological safeguards to build a secure and fair digital environment in Myanmar.
GTL Group of Companies Chairman Dr Sein Htoo, Mr Milogolov Sergey and Mr Goncharov Stanislav Andreevich of Anti-Piracy Solutions of Russian Positive Technologies coordinated the discussion and explained the Anti-Piracy Solutions of Russia and international countries.
The Deputy Minister inspected the upgrading work of Wazira Cinema in Kyauktada township in the same morning.
In the evening, he met with the departmental and company officials at the Sarso Beikman construction site in Mingala Taungnyunt township, and made proper instructions regarding the occupational safety.
