A prayer service for peace and for those affected by the recent earthquake and natural disasters was held yesterday afternoon at the Methodist English Church on Alanpya Pagoda Road in Dagon Township, Yangon. The service was organized under the leadership of the Myanmar Council of Churches’ Central Committee for Peace.
The event was attended by U Saw Htun Aung Myint, the leader of the Central Committee and the State Administration Council’s Central Advisory Body, Dr Maung Maung Naing, U Saw Jacob Htoo, Minister for Ethnic Affairs of the Yangon Region Government, leaders from various Christian denominations, members of the Myanmar Interfaith Dialogue Group (Central) and guests.
During the ceremony, U Saw Htun Aung Myint delivered a speech on behalf of the State Administration Council’s Central Advisory Body.
Afterwards, the programme proceeded with readings from the Holy Bible, religious sermons, hymns of praise, and words of peace.
Prayers and goodwill messages were then offered for the victims of the Mandalay earthquake, as well as for local and international rescue teams, donors, church organizations, medical teams, and all those involved in the relief and reconstruction efforts. Prayers were also extended to donors who have consistently provided aid during times of natural disaster, and for peace in Myanmar and around the world.
