ON-GROUND teams have been actively working to control the outbreak of severe diarrhoea in several townships in Yangon Region, under the close supervision of the Ministry of Health and with the assistance of the Yangon Region government. From 6 pm on 13 July to 6 pm on 14 July 2024, 77 new diarrhoea patients were admitted to hospitals in Yangon Region. Among them, 19 were confirmed to have severe diarrhoea, and all patients were reported to be in good condition. On 14 July, 66 patients were allowed to discharge. Up to 6 pm on 14 July 2024, a total of 521 diarrhoea patients were discharged from hospitals. Intensifying efforts to control the disease are ongoing.

ACCORDING to the review of the ministries concerned regarding the applications of the Kachin National Congress (KNC) and the Democracy and Human Rights Party for the right to continue as political parties and registration under Section 25 of the Political Parties Registration Law, the Union Election Commission found that the first party is contrary to the stipulations in Section 6 of the Political Parties Registration Law. The latter is contrary to the stipulations in Section 5. UEC cancelled the applications of the parties in accordance with the decision of the Union Election Commission Plenary Meeting 12/2024 under the Political Parties Registration Rules (g) on 8 July.

AS some patients are receiving medical treatments at hospitals during the outbreak of diarrhoea in some townships of Yangon Region starting from 25 June, the field-study teams conduct preventive measures for Cholera at the schools, factories, industries, monasteries, nunneries, homes for the aged, centres of altruistic organizations, training schools and dormitories under the supervision of Ministry of Health and Yangon Region government.

THERE were cholera patients in Yangon Region in early June 2024, and it was a regular occurrence during the annual rainy season. There were cholera outbreaks in some townships of Yangon Eastern District, including Thakayta Township. Some patients were transported to hospitals. There are no casualties to date.

TO prevent cholera, people should avoid eating unclean food and drink clean drinking water or boiling water. They should be aware of hands to be clean and personal hygiene. They should use fly-proof latrines. They should throw garbage systematically. People are urged to go to the nearest hospitals if someone is suffering from cholera.

1. The South-East Asia Crude Oil Pipeline Company Limited, which is a joint venture with the Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise, will carry out maintenance work on the waterway to allow large oil tankers to enter and exit the Maday Island oil loading port. The dredging project will be carried out by Hopper Dredger, Reem Island (Call Sign: V7OJ2) vessel from 15 July to 30 September 2024.
