Operate agricultural activities successfully to boost the State economy
IN MYANMAR, some 70 per cent of the population lives in rural areas, while around 30 per cent reside in urban areas. Of this population, approximately 50 per cent earn their livelihoods in agriculture, forestry, livestock and fisheries sectors. Therefore, promoting agricultural and livestock production is crucial for boosting the national economy. By developing the rural economy, the overall national economy can grow, while simultaneously reducing poverty.
By developing Myanmar’s core agricultural and livestock sectors, the industrial and service sectors will also advance. In the agricultural sector, expanding the cultivation of not only traditional crops but also industrial crops will promote the growth of industrial enterprises, as well as increase the manufacturing sector and the development of service industries.
At a meeting with region and state chief ministers, the Head of State has guided that, rather than expanding cultivated land, efforts should focus on increasing crop yields per acre on existing farmland. Although work is ongoing to achieve target yields, various factors have prevented full attainment of these goals so far. To improve per-acre yields, it is necessary to plant high-quality seeds of crops, apply the required fertilizers and carry out land improvement activities, use irrigation water efficiently, and cultivate systematically using proper techniques.
To achieve the target crop yields, the State is providing all possible assistance for the farmers, while also encouraging them to make their own efforts. By improving yields in this way, farmers themselves will directly benefit, and only by actively participating in these efforts can they fully experience the rewards of their own work. It is necessary to cultivate industrial crops such as cotton, cocoa, coffee, rubber, rubber, and cashew successfully for the long-term benefits. By increasing the production of industrial products this will bring significant benefits to the country.
If beekeeping activities are carried out alongside agricultural operations, they will generate additional benefits. It is also possible to cultivate mushrooms suited to the local climate and soil conditions. Furthermore, efforts should be made to expand the production of kitchen crops such as potatoes, onions, and chilli peppers.
Myanmar is a country that relies on agriculture, and therefore, farmers should not only cultivate industrial crops but also focus on marketable crops. Relevant departmental officials must be able to provide necessary support to successfully develop agricultural activities. The success of agriculture contributes not only to the socioeconomic development of farmers but also to the growth of the national economy, and everyone should recognize this.
