VICE President U Henry Van Thio yesterday inspected upgrading of Wanthu Maung Stadium, as well as constructions of buildings in the High Court of Chin State, Government Technical Institute (Haka), Education College (Haka), and Haka University in Haka, Chin State.

The Vice President, accompanied by Chin State Hluttaw Speaker U Zo Bawi, Chief Justice of Chin State U Win Myint Kyaw, regional ministers and other officials, yesterday morning inspected upgrading works of the Wanthu Maung Stadium in Haka. The Department of Sports and Physical Education Director U Than Aung explained the upgrading project. The Vice President told the officials to build hostels for athletes in the premises of the stadium.

The Vice President also inspected the construction works for the High Court of Chin State, where the Chief Justice of Chin State and other officials explained the construction project. The High Court building will be a three-storey building, and the project is worth K6.393 billion.

The Vice President also visited the Government Technical Institute (Haka). Principal Dr Salai Talun Za Htang explained the school and the construction project.

Then, the Vice President visited the Education Degree College (Haka) where the principal Daw Mi Nyo Nyo Shein explained the construction works for the buildings in the premises of the college.

The Vice President visited a site on Khosiloso Mountain where a garden will be built. He urged the officials to repair the roads on the mountain for the safety of the visitors.

When the Vice President arrived at Haka University, he inspected the construction of the convocation hall of the university. The Pro-Rector of Haka University explained the construction project, worth K9.331 billion. The construction project will be completed by December. The Vice President also inspected the land on which more library buildings of the Haka University will be built.

The construction works for Haka University Chapel were also inspected by the Vice  President, who made a donation for the project.

Vice President U Henry Van Thio inspected healthcare and transport infrastructure in Rezwa, Chin State, on 5 September.

The vice president, together with Union Minister for Education Dr Myo Thein Gyi, Chin State Chief Minister U Salai Lian Luai, Chin State Hluttaw Speaker U Zo Bwe, deputy ministers and officials, left Matupi to Rezwa and inspected the construction of a two-storey ward for the Rezwa Station Hospital. The two-storey extended building with a operation theatre and delivery room is 95.6 ft long and 50 ft wide. The building is an iron-reinforced one and the whole project costs over 472 million kyats.

During the tour of inspection, Head of Chin State Public Health and Medical Services Department Dr Aung Ngwe Zan reported on the progress of the project. Afterwards, the vice president and his entourage went to Lailinpi and held a meeting with the authorities concerned over implementation of an airport in the town.

At the meeting, Deputy Director-General of the Civil Aviation Department U Kyaw Soe reported on facts about the airport, the situation and progress of the project, quarry for the project, tree plantation at the small airport.

After hearing the report, the vice president gave instruction on completion the project by meeting the set standard.

Lailinpi Airport is located in Lailinpi, in Chin State, 4,950 ft above sea level.

The runway of the project is 2,500 ft long and 50 ft wide.

The Flexible Pavement can withstan about 5,7000 kilo of load and Caravan Cessna type of plan can land there upon completion of the project.

The project has completed about 75 per cent, and upon completion, it would benefit local people southern Chin State.

The project was funded by the Mission Aviation Fellolwship-MAF.

After the visit, the vice president and entourage went to Ramsi Village in the Matupi township and held a meeting with local people over regional development tasks.

Union Minister Dr Myo Thein Gyi and Chief Mnister U Salai Lian Luai, Deputy Minister U Tin Myint and Director-General Dr Soe Oo reported on implementation of the regional tasks.

Vice President U Henry Van Thio and party arrived Gangaw in the evening and stopped over there.

VICE President U Henry Van Thio made an inspection tour to southern Chin State on 3 September.

The Vice President and party arrived in southern Chin State on 3 September afternoon. They inspected the construction project for extending the patient ward at the No.2 public hospital in Kanpetlet.

He also met with the local people at the meeting hall of the township General Administration Department office. During the meeting, the Vice President explained the purpose of his visit was to witness at first hand the implementation status of regional development programmes during the term of the present government, to continue implementation and to listen to the requirements of the local people with respect to regional development.

He remarked that the development of a good transport network is the most crucial for least-developed Chin state, and that he made this visit to see the worst conditions for transportation during the rainy season.

He said the government was working for multi-sectoral development in Chin State, and that it would be possible to see the progress made when compared to the previous period.

Development projects would include upgrading Mindat college into university level, upgrade of Kanpetlet-Sami-Paletwa road into Myanmar-India trade route, development of road network in the state, constructions of Surbung airport in the northern part of the state and Lailenpi airport in the southern part which was now 75 per cent complete and project of Leimyo hydropower plant for Chin State.

The Vice President also provided suggestions for commercial plantation and production of elephant foot yam tuber, coffee and avocado, finding ways to get loans for the local businesses in agriculture and SMEs, and also spoke of the need of local people to cooperate with the government in development programmes.

Local people in Kanpetlet Township requested for construction of a mini airfield near Kanlaung village, new GAD office, town hall and converting the Kyindwe-Laungshe motor road into a tar road.

Chin State Chief Minister U Salai Lian Luai, Deputy Minister U Tin Myint, state government minister U Shwe Htee Yo, Director-General U Aung Myint Oo and Deputy Director-General U Kyaw Soe replied to the discussions.

The Vice President then presented cash awards to the volunteers who took part in COVID-19 measures in Kanpetlet, and Deputy Minister U Tin Myint provided cash assistance to the staff members of the township GAD (General Affairs Department).

The Vice President and party then proceeded to the factory that produces dried elephant foot yam tuber, where Secretary of the Myanmar Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association U Kyaw Thu reported on the joint-venture production of this tropical tuber crop in contract farming system.

In response to the discussions, the Vice President advised the farmers to promote the cultivation of this crop and production of its value-added products which could increase income up to three times.

The factory uses modern technology to dry the natural elephant foot yam tuber by hot air circulation and can produce 300 tonnes of dried products which will be sold to foreign countries.

On arrival at the Government Technical High School in Mindat, Principal U Aung Htike presented a briefing about the school.

The Vice President gave instructions on the upgrade of the school road for all seasons, construction of a dormitory and a land retaining wall at the place where the landslide occurred.

The school is conducting the following courses: construction course, electronics course, automobile course, electrical course and research methods, as well as short-term courses for computer, motorcycles and home electrical wiring.

During the meeting with Mindat town elders, the Vice President talked about regional development, upgrade of college, cultivation of elephant foot yam tuber, coffee and avocado, export markets, mithun (Cattle of Mountain) breeding, upgrade of road infrastructure and the 620-MW hydropower project.

He also reminded adherence to the prevention guidelines of Ministry of Health and Sports from COVID-19 and cooperation of people in this measure, voting in multiparty democracy elections on 8 November this year and cooperation of people and government in development programmes.

Local people then requested for local requirements such as construction town hall, household water supplies, office for the Road Transport Administration Department, the appointment of dentist, the school for nursing and midwives, the appointment of school teachers, school buildings and establishment of township-level government offices.

Union Minister Dr Myo Thein Gyi, Deputy Minister U Tin Myint, state government ministers U Soe Htet, U Shwe Htee Yo and Director-General Dr Soe Oo gave replies to the discussions.
