YANGON’S South District Court sentenced two people to 10-year imprisonment with labour for their involvement in trafficking their teenage sister to a Chinese man on 9 March.

Ma Khin Myo Thet (aka) Ni Ni Soe from Shwepyitha Township and Ma Aye Aye Khine from Hlinethaya Township of Yangon Region persuaded the younger sister, aged 13, Ma --------- -------, to marry a Chinese man for one year at K2 million.

The case was opened against two suspects at the Shwepyitha Myoma Police Station under Sections 24/32 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law. Then, the court handed down the sentence after Ma Khin Myo Thet (aka) Ni Ni Soe and Ma Aye Aye Khine were found guilty under Section 24 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law on 9 March.
