THE Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee focuses on strict control of illegal trade under the law.

On 7 March, the Yangon Region Forest Department seized a Toyota Kluger worth K25,000,000 together with 0.8132 tonne of teak parquet blocks worth K243,960 in Hmawby Township of Yangon District (North) and took action under the Forest Law.

On 9 March, the Customs Department at the Asia World Container Terminal Inspection Camp confiscated K63,600,000 worth of 5,300 bales of traditional ‘silkware’ longyis (sarongs) which were not mentioned in ID lists and took action under the Customs Law.

Moreover, the combined inspection team led by the Customs Department at the Mayanchaung Checkpoint of Mon State examined vehicles heading to Yangon from Myawady and seized K2,100,000 worth of 70 undocumented packs of Balloon brand candy and took action under the Customs Law.

On 10 March, the Sagaing Region Forest Department seized K474,660 worth of 1.5822 tonnes of teak in Mawlaik Township and took action under the Forest Law.

The Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) inspection camp of Kayin State also confiscated the undocumented 240 motorcycle tyres and inner tubes worth K7,322,515 and took action under the Customs Law. Thus, a total of six arrests (estimated value of K98,741,135) were made on 7, 9 and 10 March, according to the committee.
