SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trades under the law.

On 16 February, a combined inspection team of the Customs Department of the Yaypu checkpoint and relevant departments seized a total of K6,250,000 worth of illegal materials – undocumented China-made foodstuffs worth K2,250,000 and 1P/ 3145 Mitsubishi Chariot worth K4,000,000 that carried these foodstuffs.

On 17 February, the Ayeyawady Region Forest Department seized 2.2644 tonnes of ironwood worth K452,880 in Kyangin Township.

On 18 February, the combined inspection of the Sagaing Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force confiscated one unregistered Yangon CC/3169 Nissan Wingroad Y-12 worth K25,000,000 in Sagaing Township and one unregistered Kenbo-125 motorcycle worth K100,000 in Homalin Township.

Similarly, the Bago Region Forest Department seized K1,599,180 worth of 10.5468 tonnes of illegal timbers in the forest reserves of Toungoo, Pyay and Thayawady districts.

 Moreover, the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) inspection team of Kayin State seized a total of K5,770,000 worth of undocumented products – 40 (23-litre) Samsung Brand Microwave Oven worth K3,520,000 and 25 (30-litre) Samsung Brand Microwave Oven worth K2,250,000.

Moreover, the Customs Department and relevant departments of the Mayanchaung checkpoint conducted a surprise check and seized one unregistered 5E-1379 Nissan March hatchback (4x2 RHD) vehicle worth K1,500,000.

Thus, a total of 11 arrests (estimated value of K40,672,060) were made on 16, 17 and 18 February and actions were taken under the Forest Law, Customs Law and Export and Import Law, the committee stated.
