TAW Win Cherry Orchid Farm in Pindaya city of the Danu Self-Administered Zone in southern Shan State runs successful cultivation of orchid species originated from Thailand, allowing the locals to have job opportunities and earn for living in the difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pindaya Township is located at 3,880 feet above sea level and the region is suitable for fruits and flowers cultivation. Apart from local origins, foreign orchid species are experimentally grown in the region.

Vanda, Denardo, Mokara and Gore orchid species are cultivated in Taw Win Cherry Orchid Farm. The prices move in the range of K3,500-8,000 per seedling depending on the species, whereas a flower is priced at K500. They are highly demanded when there is wedding, convocation, festive celebration and donation events. They can be available throughout the year.

“I aim to create job opportunities for young people. Those who are enthusiastic can also observe the orchid farming and the farms also distribute the seedlings at a fairer rate,” said Daw San San Aye, the owner of Taw Win Cherry Farm.

In addition to orchids, organic fruits such as passion fruit, dragon fruit, avocado, guava, pomegranate, jack fruit and drumstick trees are also found on the farm. The products are also delivered to the regions nearby and City Mart outlets in Yangon Region.
