UNION Minister for Electricity and Energy U Ko Ko Lwin held talks with Thai Energy Minister Mr Akanat Promphan in Bangkok yesterday to discuss strengthening bilateral energy cooperation, upcoming agreements, and expanded Thai investment in Myanmar’s energy sector.
The meeting took place at the hotel where the Myanmar delegation was staying during President U Min Aung Hlaing’s official visit to Thailand. Union Minister U Ko Ko Lwin was accompanied by Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand U Zaw Zaw Soe, while senior officials from Thailand’s Ministry of Energy also attended.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the upcoming signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize bilateral cooperation in the electric power and energy sectors. They also discussed opportunities for Thai companies to expand investment in Myanmar’s natural gas projects, as well as plans to strengthen and expand the country’s power generation capacity and electricity distribution network.
Following the meeting, the Union Minister warmly greeted the Thai Energy Minister and his delegation and briefed them on investment opportunities in Myanmar’s electric power and energy sectors.
