Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Tin Maung Swe held a meeting with the United Nations Resident Coordinator/Humanitarian Coordinator ad interim and representatives of United Nations agencies in Myanmar yesterday at the Saturanga Bala Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.
During the meeting, the Union minister briefed on recent domestic political developments in Myanmar, the Government’s future priorities, and invitation extended for peace dialogue.
He also stressed that the Government assures all available assistance reaches to the needy population without any discrimination. The Government is cooperating closely with United Nations agencies and international organizations in the provision of humanitarian assistance and allows access to all secured areas while taking into consideration of the safety and security of their humanitarian workers. He also reaffirmed that the Government of Myanmar will continue its cooperation with United Nations agencies based in Myanmar. He encouraged the UN agencies to maintain close and continuous coordination with the relevant ministries in the delivery of humanitarian assistance and to cooperate in a constructive and neutral manner, without political interference, in order to ensure the effective delivery of humanitarian assistance to the needy people.
Union Minister U Tin Maung Swe also highlighted the need to provide sustainable development assistance to support the people of Myanmar and to help build a resilient economy.
Afterwards, representatives of the United Nations agencies explained and discussed their ongoing cooperation with the respective ministries in Myanmar.
The briefing was attended by the deputy minister and respective officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the United Nations Resident Coordinator/Humanitarian Coordinator ad interim; Country Representatives of UNICEF, UNHCR and UN Women; the Heads of the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office, IOM and UNOCHA; Deputy Representatives and Officers-in-Charge from WHO, UNFPA, UNOPS, WFP, FAO and UNDP.
