At the invitation of Mr Valery D Zorkin, Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation, a delegation led by U Aung Zaw Thein, Chairman of the Constitutional Tribunal of the Union (CTU), attended the international conference titled “Constitutional Review and Contemporary Global Challenges,” held in St Petersburg, the Russian Federation, from 19 to 21 May.
The international conference was also attended by chairpersons and judges of constitutional courts from member countries of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC), including Myanmar, as well as invited legal experts and heads of international organizations.
At the conference, U Aung Zaw Thein exchanged views and experiences with the attendees on constitutional review and contemporary global challenges, including judicial challenges encountered during the COVID-19 pandemic, the protection of citizens’ environmental rights, and the impact of artificial intelligence on the judiciary as technology continues to advance.
The delegation led by the chairman of the CTU returned to Yangon by air on 21 May.
