MYANMAR National Human Rights Commission virtually joined the 17th Annual Meeting of the Southeast Asia National Human Rights Institutions Forum (SEANF), Webinar on National and International Initiatives on Torture Prevention and Online Dialogue on Statelessness Issues in Sabah which were hosted by Komnas HAM (Indonesia) from 24 to 26 November.
The Chairman of Myanmar Commission U Hla Myint, the Deputy Chairman, Director-General of Commission’s Office and other staff members joined the annual meeting and side events together with the chairpersons, members and staff of National Human Rights Commission from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Timor-Leste and the Philippines.
The forum discussed the activities and development of SEANF member countries after the 16th meeting, approval of Guidelines for the use of SEANF social media platform, exchange of information regarding business sector and human rights issues among the member countries, approval of forum’s statement regarding the migrant workers’ issue during COVID-19 pandemic and the establishment of Permanent Secretariat.
An informal meeting between SEANF member countries and ASEAN Inter-governmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) will be held on the morning of 25 November.
This is the very first meeting of SEANF and AICHR.
The annual meeting of SEANF and side events will be held until 26 November and the current alternate Chair Indonesian National Commission on Human Rights will hand over the chairmanship to Malaysia for 2021 after the annual meeting.
